Following up on yesterday's blog on concerts I realize that music has always been a very big part of my life. As a young child I can remember going to bed and listening to my mom play the piano. We still enjoy joining around the piano at Christmas time and singing Christmas carols.
I started playing the flute in the 4th grade in the marching band and played all the way through high school. Many hours practicing in the Lamar High School parking lot in over 100 degree weather to get our routines perfect for the halftime shows.
Songs can certainly take me to a specific place and time. Here are just a few of my musical transporters:
- Queen's "We are the Champions" - senior year in high school
- Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" - summer nights in Killarney
- "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera - Stephen's bachelor party trip to Toronto
- Johnny Cash's "Jackson" - a very young Heath singing in Cleburne
- Michael Buble's "Everything" - my sister's wedding
- "Blister in the Sun" by the Violent Femmes - sorority talent show
- "Islands in the Stream" by Dolly (Wendy) and Kenny (Carl) - Stephen & Dedra's Halloween party
- Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl" - Killarney fish fry
- 'Lookin' for Love' - Johnny Lee - dancing at Calamity's
- "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynrd ..... it's my current ringtone

 Many great musical memories :-)
